Welcome to
Point 2 Kennels
We are Joe and Janeen Schneider, and we are located in Dayton, Texas, about 25 miles east of Houston.  We own English Setters and a Brittany, and run predominantly AKC horseback field trials.  Our field champions have been owner trained and handled.

Our dogs work hard but they are also our companions and all are full or part-time housedogs.

Our Story

We started training dogs with our first Golden Retriever in 1994 when we lived in Anchorage, Alaska.  We participated in NHRA and AKC retriever hunt tests at that time.

With the development of new Ruffed Grouse habitat in Alaska, we decided to look for a pointing dog and purchased our first English Setter, a Ryman from Royal Sterling Kennels in Michigan.  She was intended to be a hunting dog but she had other ideas about her destiny and took us down a path we would never have imagined, a path that completely changed our lives.

When we moved to Houston in 2000 we entered “Dyna-Moe” in the first hunt tests we could find.  People kept telling us we should enter her in field trials. We had no idea why or how, but we leased our first horse and started working her off horseback.  We entered her in her first field trial and she won.  She was FC/AFC Royal Sterling’s Dyna, CD, SH. HDX, CGC.

Soon after we started Dyna’s field trial career, we purchased a second Ryman Setter from Royal Sterling and a couple horses.  “Shiner” earned his AFC in 2003.  Shiner is a “natural” bird dog with a strong work ethic.  He was one of the easiest dogs we have ever trained, with a strong desire to please.   He was not able to finish his FC due to an injury, but he is still busy finding birds on our training leases.

We were hooked, and decided we needed to leave the suburbs and head for the country where we could keep our horses and as many dogs as we wanted.  In 2002 we moved to Dayton and started adding more Setters to the household.  This time we turned to Terry Tuley, owner of Arbuckle Kennels in Robinson, Texas.  We are currently running several dogs out of his lines.  Terry has also been a great friend and mentor, sharing his knowledge and dedication to the breed and the sport.

By a stroke of luck and the generosity of our friend David Downing, we also acquired ownership of a little gem of a Brittany named Ruby in 2004.  “Ruby” is DC AFC Blueridge’s Blazen Gem.  She is a beauty, and has been a joy to own, train, and run, being extremely willing to train and please us.  She was bred by Jan and Claude Kilpatrick, owners of Rusty Ridge Kennels.  Jan was subsequently added as a co-owner and manages Ruby’s show career.

We have puppies available out of "Boss" and "Lizzie" born
